Roulette is a game that dates back to the 17th century and is one of the most popular online gambling games of today especially in Europe.
A game of roulette consists of eight players. The players play against the casino which will be represented by a croupier who is also called the dealer. Other than spinning the wheel the croupier also manages the bets placed by the players and also the payouts. Depending on where they are played roulette has different number of slots. In Europe it has 37 consisting of 36 numbers and one zero, in the USA it will have 38 slots comprising of 36 numbers and two zeroes.
Before the start of the game every player buys different coloured chips which will have their value mentioned on it. The chips can be placed on numbers laid out in the table. After all the players have placed their bets the croupier begins the spin and puts the ball into the wheel. As the wheel spins and the ball is about to drop into any of the slots the croupier will announce that no more bets can be placed. Once this is announcement is made players cannot place any more bets nor can changes to bets be made. The object of the game is for the players to decide in which number the ball will land after each spin.
Once the croupier places the dolly on the winning number all the losing bets will be cleared from the table. The winner will be paid off by the croupier and the other players can place new bets. All those who picked the winning number will win as also those who picked numbers which are in and around the winning one.
Players need to understand the house advantage that is there in roulette. In a double zero roulette the house advantage is 5.26% and when it is single zero roulette the house advantage is 2.7%.
In some of the casinos the “En Prison” rule is applied to bets on even money only. What this means is that if the outcome of a spin is zero then the players will be allowed to take back half of their bets or leave the entire amount for another spin. If in the second spin also results in a zero then the house gets the entire amount. Other than this rule there is another rule similar to it called “La Partage”. As per this rule the players loses half the amount in case a spin results in zero, there is no option of leaving the amount for another spin.
If a player bets on a single number only the pay back is 35 to 1 which means the player will get 36 in a single zero roulette and 38 in a double zero roulette. If the bet is on a two number then the payout is 17 to 1. Three number bet will earn the winner 11 to 1. Four number bet will get the winner 8 to 1, six number bet will see the winner getting 5 to 1. |
