A hand that totals 10 is valued at 0 after the tens digit is dropped. Such a hand is called baccarat.

The rules for drawing the cards are explained below. Initially both the player and the banker are dealt two cards each. If the player’s hand value is 6 or more, then the player has to stand without drawing any more cards. His final hand value remains as it is. If the player’s hand value is 5 or less, the player has to draw one more card. The player’s final hand value is determined after adding the value of the third card in the manner described earlier. If the banker’s hand value is then 7 or more, then the banker has to stand without drawing any more cards. If the banker’s hand value is then 2 or less, then the banker has to draw one more card. In all other eventualities whether the banker draws or not is determined by the whether the player drew, and if so by the value of the card drawn by the player. The rules for this are fixed and the online baccarat software is programmed to act accordingly. The rules for casino baccarat are slightly different then online Baccarat.
