Blackjack Rules

Welcome to our page where we explain blackjack rules. Blackjack or twenty one as it is known to some is one of the most commonly played casino games. It is game that requires the players to have luck and skill to win. There are number of variations to the game of blackjack and each variation has its own set of rules.

There are about 6 players in a game of online blackjack. About 6 to 8 deck of cards are used and shuffled for a game. The cards are dealt out a box called a “shoe”. The players are required to get as close to 21 as possible with the cards that are dealt out to them by the dealer. If the total crosses 21 then the player loses. King, queen and jack have a value of 10, aces have a value of 1 or 11, and number cards have the same value as the numbers they carry.

If the value of cards held by a player and the casino are the same then it is a tie which is called a push. In this event no one wins. For a player to win the dealer must be beaten without the player going bust. A bust is when a player’s cards total to more than 21.

Before players can start to receive cards bets must be placed. Players are given two cards each with the option of switching the cards received. Players receive their cards face up and the dealer has one card facing up and one card facing down. Players try to get as close to 21 as possible by changing cards or do not change them if the card received first are good enough. If any of the players bust they move out of the game and once all the players complete their round of play it is the dealer’s turn. At the dealer’s turn the face down card is turned up. The general rule of play here is that on 17 or higher the dealer does not change cards but on 16 or lower cards are drawn by the dealer.

If a player has an ace and a 10 it is called a blackjack and the player wins automatically. Such a winner would get back one and a half times the amount that was placed as bet. The other players whose cards total to more than what the dealer has and do not exceed 21 will get a payback equal to the bet that was placed by them. Players whose cards total to less than the dealer’s will lose their bets. If the dealer busts then all the other players will win.

The other common betting options are – Split, even money, double down, surrender and insurance.

The rule of surrender betting option is that a player can give up the hand and lose only half of the bet. This option will not be allowed if the player chooses to surrender only after the dealer has checked for blackjack. The insurance option allows players to insure against the dealer having blackjack if the dealer’s face up card is an ace.
